The mother of four children and founder of the restaurant chain "Akakiko" began her career with a sushi stand on the Naschmarkt.

State Secretary Christine Marek presented the native Korean Mi-Ja Friedländer, founder and managing director of the Akakiko restaurant group, with the Silver Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria. The “first generation migrant”, who has been living in Austria since 1979 and married to an Austrian, was honored for her economic and social merits.

Friedländer, born in 1957 in Chun-buk / Republic of Korea as Mi-Ja CHON, founded the Korean restaurant “Seoul” in the 7th district of Vienna in 1984, ten years later the Akakiko group with more than 170 employees and an average annual turnover of around 14 Million Euros.

State Secretary Marek especially praised Friedländer's commitment to the integration of migrants, but also Akakiko's exemplary “teaching company” for system catering.

In addition, Akakiko is one of the few Austrian catering companies as a franchisor abroad. The Korean ambassador Sung-Hwan Kim also saw the award as an “award for the Korean community in Austria”. After all, Friedländer is a board member of the Austrian-Korean Society in Vienna, which primarily focuses on promoting mutual relations between the two countries. In addition, the mother of four is a member of the committee for the peaceful reunification of North and South Korea and a member of the Korean Women's International Network "KOIN", Seoul.

　外務省は韓国系市民団体によるドイツでの慰安婦少女像設置を受け、女性を「性奴隷」にした事実はないなどとする慰安婦問題の見解をドイツ語に訳し、2日までにホームページに掲載した。日本政府の歴史認識をドイツ世論に直接伝え、浸透を図る狙いがある。
